I matriculated from school, but I’ve never had a business before.
I was working, but around 2014 I stopped working for personal reasons. Life was good for me until Covid19 hit our lives. Covid19 stressed me out because I was now the one who had to put food on the table.
Life became very hard. I lost three family members, my mom included. My mom was the one who was always there for me. When she died unexpectedly, I had to become this strong woman I didn’t even know existed inside me!
I felt abandoned during that challenging time, even though I’m married with kids. I felt even more abandoned when my brothers and sister didn’t give me the support I needed from them. Growing up, we were always together and saw each other all the time. When my mother passed, they just stayed away from our parent’s house (where I am currently staying). I’ve struggled to make ends meet.
My life changed when I learnt I could be my own boss 😂!
I’ve never dreamt of having a company, or to be my own boss.
Wow! When I arrived at TCB I didn’t even realise all the things I would learn and do here. At my age – I am learning how to keep books and accounts! At TCB I’ve learned to come out of my comfort zone. I now know how to be my bookkeeper, decide things by myself, and be accountable for my stock.
Today I can only say “thank you God” for people like Nicky, Jenine and last but not least, Lynette! These ladies are phenomenal!
I could start paying my debts off. I have achieved so much.
I’m making clothes for young ladies in my community. I do alterations as well, which brings in most of my money.
I feel very good, excited and bold now. I know I will never sleep hungry again.
My advice to others?
Use whatever God has given you. I have talent, patience and two beautiful hands that can make beautiful clothes. I’m a perfectionist. Never give up on what you’re good at.
